Digital platform and cybersecurity firm Irdeto is closing out the first month of 2020 with a pair of major deals in Moscow, helping an online video streaming provider protect against piracy, and an IPTV and OTT tech provider securely manage their subscribers’ connected devices.

First off, ivi, a leading Russian online video streaming service, is looking to Irdeto and its TraceMark forensic watermarking solution to combat online piracy. The OTT VOD platform — which lays claim to more than 50 million monthly unique users, despite more than 90% of Russians admitting to using pirated content — is seeking to use Irdeto’s TraceMark watermarking to keep in compliance with both copyright laws and content owners’ demands for better security practices, Irdeto said.

TraceMark allows both broadcast and OTT providers to watermark streamed content, and ID the user accounts pirate streams originate from.

"" “This partnership with ivi is an exciting expansion for Irdeto into the Russian market.” said Shane McCarthy, COO of video entertainment for Irdeto. “We are confident that our TraceMark solution will provide ivi with the forensic watermarking it needs to fight online fraudsters, ensuring the continued access to valuable content rights.”

Evgeni Rossinski, CTO of ivi, added: “We needed a proven, credible anti-piracy solution to combat the growing threat of online piracy. Integrating the TraceMark watermarking solution into our existing piracy tools was straightforward and with Irdeto’s strong local customer support, we can continue to fight online pirates while delighting our customers with great high value content.”

Meanwhile, Irdeto also announces that Russian IPTV and OTT technology provider Microimpuls will begin deploying Irdeto’s Trusted Home solution, to protect connected households and securely manage subscribers’ connected devices over home WiFi networks.

Launched at IBC 2019, Irdeto Trusted Home — an AI-driven security and WiFi management solution — provides broadband subscribers control over their home network, showing what devices have connected and the bandwidth they use, securing the smart home experience via a iOS or Android mobile application.

This is the second Russian deployment of Irdeto solutions by Microimpuls, with the provider having already launched Irdeto Cloud CA for cable operators.

“Failing to properly secure smart devices is the digital equivalent of locking the front door but leaving all the windows open” Irdeto’s McCarthy said. “We’re increasingly conscious of our personal data, and broadband providers need the tools to address their customers’ concerns about data privacy and security while offering value added services.

“By adding Trusted Home to its existing security tools, Microimpuls can provide seamless smart home security to ISPs, creating business efficiencies that can generate additional revenue in the process.”

Konstantin Shpinev, co-founder and CTO of Microimpuls, added: “Irdeto has a global reputation for digital and cybersecurity, so working with an industry-leader like them solidifies the reliability of our products in the minds of our customers. We constantly aim to improve our existing products and develop our business into new markets to better serve our customers, and we see Irdeto as a key strategic partner in doing that.”
