CreativeFuture has come out in support of the Register of Copyrights Selection and Accountability Act (H.R. 1695 ). CreativeFuture has said it encourages Congress to swiftly enact this important legislation.

“I would like to thank Chairman Goodlatte, Ranking Member Conyers, Chairman Grassley, Ranking Member Feinstein, Senator Leahy, and the 29 original co-sponsors for their leadership,” CreativeFuture CEO Ruth Vitale said. “It is long overdue to make the head of the Copyright Office, the Register of Copyrights, subject to the same nomination and confirmation process as other top government officials. The standing of the Copyright Office should reflect the immense value of the economic and cultural contributions that it helps to support.”

Vitale added, “The core copyright industries added more than $1.2 trillion of value to the U.S. GDP, accounting for 6.88% of the U.S. economy, exceeding aerospace, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals. Moreover, these industries employed over 5.5 million people across the country. ” “Our members and the creative industries stand with these lawmakers in their effort to bring the Copyright Office into the 21st century.”
