Wasabi: How to Maximize Video Surveillance Solutions With Hybrid Cloud Storage

Organizations have become eager to embrace solutions that simplify integration of complementary technologies while ensuring affordability, scalability and security, according to Wasabi Technologies and Hanwha Vision.

On Sept. 7, during the webinar “Maximizing Video Surveillance Solutions with Hybrid Cloud Storage,” managers from both firms explained the benefits of bringing together new and existing surveillance solutions with a powerful pairing of technologies.

Viewers were able to learn how to define a hybrid cloud storage infrastructure and understand the key value propositions, effectively position the Wasabi and Hanwha surveillance solution featuring hybrid cloud storage and obtain an exclusive 30-day free trial of their solution for client demos or personal use.

The webinar also served to provide a sneak peek into what to expect from Wasabi and Hanwha with Global Security Exchange (GSX) just around the corner, Sept. 11-13 in Dallas, Texas, and sign up for a live demo at the show.

“I primarily focus on managing our technology alliance partnership growth,” said Jaslyn Scribner, global technology alliances manager at Wasabi. “I’ve been in the industry for about seven years, spanning physical security, hardware, cyber security, software and now I’ve been with Wasabi for two years, supporting our growth in the surveillance market.”

She added: “Fortunately, when two organizations like Wasabi and Hanwha come together and combine their innovative technologies, we can really help customers make these industrywide shifts a little bit easier to embrace. We really appreciate the opportunity to be here today to ultimately discuss how organizations can instantly maximize their storage capabilities by leveraging the best of on-prem and cloud storage.”

Scribner stressed: “You don’t need to choose one. They’re actually better together and we’re thrilled to talk to you about how and why they are.”

She conceded that “change can be uncomfortable,” but noted: “It’s inevitable.”

Scribner went on to say: “It is tough to make that transition to the cloud sometimes. I think a lot of the security systems out there were used to doing things locally, local storage and things like that. Wasabi really gives you a great way to start moving towards the cloud. And we’ll show you exactly how that works. But we can still have our on-prem storage and then we can copy things up to the cloud.”

Meanwhile, Wasabi has been “expanding our global footprint tremendously over the past few years, and customers really can conveniently choose where to store their data in any of our 13 data centers that we currently have across the globe,” she pointed out. “So, it’s really important that we help customers adhere to those data sovereignty laws and store their data wherever they choose to and whatever is most convenient for them…. We don’t discriminate when it comes to data storage.”

To underscore that, she noted: “We store everything from hospital x rays to student records to major motion pictures, and what we’ll be talking about and focusing on today is video surveillance data.”

Wasabi “really recognized a gap in the market,” she said, explaining: “Customers are investing more and more, as I’m sure you all know, investing more in high- resolution cameras. Those higher-resolution cameras are generating much larger data files that need storing. But unfortunately, they’re running out of local capacity. And investing in more server hardware can be not only a physical burden but a financial burden. When you look at that total cost of ownership of maintaining an on-prem only infrastructure, the cost of power and heating and cooling and just overall maintenance can really build up over time.”

On top of that, she said: “Then you’re forced to replace that hardware. Never mind the vulnerabilities of not having that data backed up off-site in case something happens to that physical server. We get calls all the time about stolen or damaged server hardware and, unfortunately, those customers didn’t have an off-site copy that they could rehydrate into onto a new NBR.”

What happens in such cases? Easy, she said: “You’re really S. O. L. in terms of your data storage and we don’t want that to happen. We want to be sure that customers have access to their data instantly and that it’s easily accessible, but also that it’s even there in the first place.”

Also speaking during the webinar was Craig Yonge, senior alliance marketing manager, surveillance, at Wasabi, who noted he sits on the company’s marketing team, working closely with Jaslyn and … working with our technology alliance partners, pulling together our solutions and really helping to get them into the right hands together.”

Mark Heintzman, technical partnership manager at Hanwha Vision, served as the webinar’s moderator.
