MESA’s Spring M+E Journal Goes Live

The spring edition of the “M&E Journal,” published by MESA and geared toward senior media and entertainment executives who oversee their companies’ digital futures, is now available online.

The 118-page publication features insights from nearly two dozen MESA members, from Atos to ZOO Digital, with the issue’s main focus centered on media and entertainment’s future with the metaverse and virtual production.

Along with the cover section — “Charting the Metaverse” — the issue offers industry insights for several crucial industry areas, including “Workflows and the Cloud,” “Smart Content,” and “Security Solutions.” Additionally, the “M&E Journal” also features columns from MESA’s executive leadership.

Here’s a quick look at what’s included in the “Security Solutions” section:

• “Hey, Film and Tv Industry: Are You Paying Attention to the Metaverse?” by Shane McCarthy, COO of video entertainment for Irdeto. The metaverse. What is it? It’s hard to say, but what
is unequivocal is that if you are in the media and entertainment industry, you can’t afford to ignore it. What’s the big deal, you ask? Pre-teens, teens, and college/post college-age kids are spending more time in these virtual worlds, playing games, socializing, and spending their money. And if they stop coming to your video services, maybe you should think about taking your service to them.

• “Is Security Any Different for the Metaverse?” by Mathew Gilliat-Smith, EVP of Convergent Risks. The metaverse is underpinned by blockchain, cryptocurrencies and NFTs. And where there is money to be made there will also be bad actors, with fake identities, false promises, and scams. If media and entertainment is going to play in the metaverse, it needs to be prepared.

• “Mobile Device Evolution Brings Evolved Threats” by Sean Kalinich, cybersecurity architect for Richey May Advisory. Even putting aside social networking, games, and other common features of even the lowest cost phones, we use them for communication, voice, and text, as our personal organizer, mobile productivity, even to monitor and maintain fitness and health. They are invaluable tools. But with these evolved features come new threats. We look at how to confront them.

Beginning Monday, June 27, look for stories from the spring edition of the “M+E Journal” every week in the “M+E Daily” newsletter.
