PacketFabric to Explore Security in the Cloud at Dec. 16 Content Protection Summit

At the Dec. 16 Content Protection Summit event in Los Angeles, PacketFabric executives will discuss what’s new and what’s needed to deliver security to an industry that needs it more than ever.

The Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA) said the Content Protection Summit — the premiere gathering of the top security and asset protection minds in the M&E industry — is returning as a hybrid virtual and in-person event, presented by IBM Security.

During the session “Is Private the New Secure? De-Risking Storage and the Journey to the Cloud,” PacketFabric executives will explain that, in an increasingly decentralized and remote workforce, the importance of fluid interoperability between cloud providers, teams and workflows has never been more apparent.

To make security concerns a thing of the past, our approaches to networking and storage face existential, fundamental shifts.

Speaking during the session will be: Anna Claiborne, PacketFabric CTO, chief product officer and co-founder; Lisa Gerber, its director of business development, media and entertainment U.S.; and Dave Ward, its CEO.

“In the times of changing infrastructure, secure data mobility is table stakes,” according to Gerber. “The simplest path is a Layer 2 network, which supports trusted transfer software on their private journey to the cloud, bypassing the public internet,” she said.

Gerber added: “Not only do network connections require privacy, but with the disaster recovery afforded by secure object storage, the two together provide a safe haven for the media and entertainment industry.”

Also announced was that Juliette Kayyem, senior Belfer lecturer in international security at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and faculty director of the university’s Homeland Security Project and Security and Global Health Project, will serve as the luncheon keynote speaker for the event.

Her keynote address — “Minimizing Risk and Maximizing Resiliency in a Post-COVID World” — will focus on how, amid all of our collective focus on the pandemic, we shouldn’t lose sight of security the security vulnerabilities and hackers who continue to find new ways to get at your personal and corporate information.

She’ll bring the evolving risk management and resiliency strategies across organizations and disciplines she teaches at Harvard to the Content Protection Summit crowd, including her “Five Investments in a Resilient System,” which offers unique and practical lessons for the media and entertainment industry. From the frontlines as a mother of three and a homeland security expert.

Kayyem will discuss the importance of preparedness, and inspire attendees to understand that, while we will always be vulnerable, there’s a lot we can still do to lower our risks.

Kayyem, a CNN national security analyst and CEO and co-founder of rideshare industry transparency firm Grip Mobility, has spent more than two decades managing complex policy initiatives and organizing government responses to major crises in both state and federal government. She served as President Obama’s assistant secretary for intergovernmental affairs at the Department of Homeland Security and is the author of “Security Mom,” a memoir that explores the intersection, and commonalities, of her life in homeland security and her life as a mother.

Produced by MESA and presented by IBM Security and Synamedia, the Content Protection Summit is sponsored by Convergent Risks, Richey May Technology Solutions, PacketFabric, archTIS, Code42, INTRUSION, StoneTurn and Vision Media.
