GeoGuard to Stress Territorial Exclusivity at Content Protection Summit

The experts at geolocation spoofing specialists GeoGuard know how important the territorially-based content licensing model is for content owners. At the Dec. 8 virtual Content Protection Summit they’ll share a case study showing exactly why.

The presentation by Alastair Campbell, commercial and product marketing manager for GeoGuard, and Diane Hamer, head of business and legal affairs for brand protection at BBC Studios — “BBC Case Study: The Use of VPN and Proxy Detection to Ensure Territorial Exclusivity for Rightsholders” — will show how BBC utilizes VPN and proxy detection to ensure the territorial content exclusivity of their international broadcasters is protected, and how VPN and proxy detection is the first line of defense in stopping the erosion of content value caused by geolocation fraud and geo-piracy.

“Attendees can expect to hear about the technical approach to upholding context exclusivity meshed with the real-world experiences of licensing content internationally.” Campbell said. “Attendees will come away with a better understanding of why content exclusivity is important and the techniques at play in protecting it.”

The proliferation of VPNs and DNS proxies have undermined the territorial model by enabling users from anywhere in the world to spoof their location to illegally access geographically restricted content. Campbell will share insights and expertise around VPN and proxy detection, while Hamer will offer the perspective of an international broadcaster.

Presented by Microsoft Azure, the event is sponsored by SHIFT, Genpact, Akamai, Convergent Risks, Friend MTS, GeoGuard, PacketFabric, Palo Alto Networks, Richey May Technology Solutions, Splunk, Zixi, Cyberhaven, EIDR, the Trusted Partner Network and Xcapism Learning.
