Spanish broadcaster Mediaset España has tapped content security provider Irdeto to help secure content delivery for Mediaset’s sports-centric OTT service Mitele Plus, the companies announced Feb. 11.
Mitele Plus offers live streaming of some of Spain’s most popular sports leagues, including La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, Copa Del Rey and Europa League. To help cut down on piracy, Mediaset is using the Irdeto Control end-to-end security solution, which supports multiple digital rights management (DRM) systems, optimized to handle multiple, daily live events.
“There is huge demand for premium OTT services across Europe and live sports rights can be a real differentiator, which makes it crucial to ensure the security of this premium content against the backdrop of a great cross-device user experience,” said Shane McCarthy, COO of video entertainment for Irdeto. “With the implementation of Irdeto Control, we are able to take on the complexity of managing security, fragmented technologies and back-end workflow for Mediaset España and enable them to focus on delivering value to their customers.”
The streaming platform is available across smartphones, laptops, tablets and connected TV apps.
