NAB 2019: MESA Members to Show Off Security, Content Protection Solutions

By Jeff Berman and Chris Tribbey –

Members of the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA) in the content protection and cybersecurity business will be on hand at this year’s NAB Show in Las Vegas, with SHIFT, IBM Security, Eurofins Digital Testing, and NAGRA all exhibiting.

Here’s a quick look at what each company is bringing to the show:

SHIFT

For 20 years, content creators used both Mediasilo and Wiredrive to tell their stories, safeguard content using SafeStream’s on-demand watermarking technology, and deliver and access pre-release content on Screeners.com. Those combined technologies, solving the industry’s most pressing workflow challenges, now fall under the SHIFT brand, with the team from the company ready to show off new post needs and give demos of the new SHIFT platform at NAB.

SafeStream by SHIFT will also be the main sponsor for the April 7 Cybersecurity & Content Protection Summit, presented by the NAB Show and the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA). Kai Pradel, founder and CEO of SafeStream, will offer up welcome remarks at the event, while Alex Nauda, CTO of SHIFT and Screeners.com will present “What Keeps us up at Night? A Content Sharing Vendor’s Threat Models,” which will analyze the biggest threats and weakest links that warrant the most attention. SL8705

IBM Security

At NAB, IBM Security will showcase its latest solutions for the telecommunications, media and entertainment sectors, covering everything from regulatory compliance, to identifying and stopping threats quickly.

As one of the main sponsors for the April 7 Cybersecurity & Content Protection Summit, presented by the NAB Show and the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA), IBM will also bring its brightest to share the latest on security issues.

Michael Klint Borozan, worldwide security industry leader for IBM Security, will present “How the Weather Channel Built Digital Trust,” a look at how one global media, content and analytics organization deployed a security program to help a company innovate, differentiate and grow.

Additionally, Anyck Tungeon cyber-Resiliency and security evangelist for IBM Security, will take part in the April 10 panel session “Improving the Odds Against Cyber-Tsunamis and Your Enterprise Risk Posture With Cyber-Resilience” (N258). SL5005

Eurofins Digital Testing

Eurofins Digital Testing will showcase its suite of automated test tools, test services, training and cybersecurity services at NAB 2019, according to the company, a global leader in end-to-end quality assurance (QA) and testing services.

The company will demonstrate its video and digital media systems and services —for set-top boxes, 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR), ATSC and more — as well as its testing services for cybersecurity, according to Johan Craeybeckx, business line director at Eurofins Digital Testing International.

“We are also very excited about” the new Arreios for ATSC 3.0 conformance test suite that it announced March 27 and will also be showcased in Eurofins’ booth, suite and at the show’s emerging technologies area, ‘Futures Park,’” he said.

That new test suit enables the certification and testing for ATSC 3.0 features including Ultra High Definition (UHD) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) video over broadcast and broadband, interactive applications, targeted advertising, emergency alerts, content recovery and watermarking, Eurofins said in its announcement.

The new ATSC 3.0 standard “brings together many advanced technologies in the physical, transport, application and service layers of this new broadcast and broadband transmission system,” Eurofins noted.
Arreios for ATSC 3.0 provides a suite of automated test tools that will “enable device manufacturers and their supply chain to reliably and efficiently test a range of scenarios to verify conformance and correct implementation for the wide-range of technologies” included in ATSC 3.0, it said in a news release.

The Arreios for ATSC 3.0 Conformance Test Suite includes a complete lab test environment for device black box testing, as well as: Built-in automation and an intuitive user interface (UI) for managing test execution; an ATSC 3.0 test plan and test information (test assertion, procedure and specification references); video capture and automated video playback recognition; an audio/video data processing unit for verifying A/V synchronization and frame rate detection; dynamic stream packaging and playout; an integrated web server for hybrid scenarios, including applications and broadband video use cases; and integrated test report generation for quality assurance (QA) teams and conformance/certification use.

Following the preview at NAB, Arreios for ATSC 3.0 will be available to buy starting May 1.

NAGRA

At NAB, NAGRA will demonstrate its latest technologies in content protection, anti-piracy services and watermarking.

“With traditional TV and OTT now synonymous and with numerous needs to address, such as protecting premium content, especially in sports, fighting new forms of piracy, integrating various sources of content and running cloud operations, players in the media and entertainment space must have the right strategy in place for success,” said Tom Wirth, SVP of the Americas for NAGRA. “We are now at a stage where operators, broadcasters and content owners must drive business transformation forward and adapt to current markets needs by leveraging solutions that are simple, smart, flexible and efficient – this will be the focus of our NAB showcase.”

NAGRA will demonstrate the following:

• Cloud-based content value protection, via NAGRA’s Security Service Platform, cloud.SSP, a flexible platform for managing an operator’s content security requirements across all screens. The service supports TVkey Cloud, a cloud-based direct-to-TV security solution for smart TVs. NAGRA will also highlight Android TV security and content protection for ATSC 3.0.

• Anti-piracy services and forensic watermarking, and how to proactively fight and disrupt evolving piracy threats, by providing a combined approach of anti-piracy services and forensic watermarking for live sports and VOD content. SU3624
