NAB 2019: MPAA, NAB Execs Highlight Cybersecurity & Content Protection Summit Program

Among the collection of experts on hand April 7 in Las Vegas for the second-annual Cybersecurity & Content Protection Summit at the Westgate Hotel will be the director of content security for the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), and the CTO of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), adding their expertise to a must-attend, half-day event before the NAB Show floor opens.

Co-produced by the NAB Show and the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA), the program for the Cybersecurity & Content Protection Summit program will place an increased emphasis on the role technology providers play today in securing workflows, content distribution and the viewer experience. Here’s a look at what some executives have ready to discuss:

• In the panel “Setting the Standards and Systems for Securing Media & Entertainment,” several industry association execs will share how their organizations — and how individual efforts — are playing a critical role in tackling increasingly challenging workflows and distribution models, providing a foundation for infrastructure security. Sam Matheny, CTO of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), Mark Harrison, managing director of the Digital Production Partnership (DPP), J.C. Lee, chairman of the technical committee for the North American Broadcasters Association (NABA), and Jason Thibeault, executive director of the Streaming Video Alliance, will all be on hand.

• “Securing Next-Gen TV” sees Peter Van Peenen, technology consultant with Pearl TV, offering insight into the next-generation broadcast standard ATSC 3.0, and how broadcast engineers and business officers are working with the new standard to provide a more secure, accountable system for content owners and their distribution partners.

• Kurt Fischer, director of content security for the MPAA, and COO of the industry-wide content security initiative, the Trusted Partner Network (TPN), will be joined by other heads of TPN for the presentation “Trusted Partner Network: Year One,” offering an update on the progress of the initiative — geared toward elevating the security standards of the film and television industry’s production and distribution supply chain — one year after it officially launched at NAB. Guy Finley, executive director of CDSA and CEO of TPN, and Ben Stanbury, chairman of CDSA and CTO of TPN, will join Fischer on stage.

The CDSA Content Protection & Cybersecurity Summit is presented by SafeStream by SHIFT, Akamai, IBM Security, Microsoft Azure, Convergent Risks, the Digital Watermarking Alliance, the Trusted Partner Network, and produced by the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA) and the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA), in cooperation with the NAB Show.
