Content Protection Summit Keynotes to Examine Security Awareness, Disinformation Campaigns


A trio of keynote presentations Dec. 5 during the Content Delivery & Security Association’s (CDSA) annual Content Protection Summit (CPS) in Marina del Rey, Calif. will look at everything from the state of security awareness programs, to the rampant threat of disinformation campaigns and social media manipulation, to how one content company is tackling its security challenges.

Here’s a look at what security awareness expert Winn Schwartau, Jonathon Morgan, CEO of New Knowledge and founder of Data for Democracy, and Alex Pickering, global content security director for BBC Studios, will have on tap for attendees of the largest conference of the year dedicated to securing Hollywood’s content (to register for CPS, click here):

• Schwartau will provide step-by-step guidelines for designing and implementing an “awesome organization-wide security awareness program,” from concept to launch to metrics. What makes Hollywood tick — entertaining, storytelling, tapping into current cultural trends, influencing consumer behavior — that can be applied to the successful launch of a security awareness campaign. Schwartau plans to challenge the audience to set a new standard for security awareness programs, ones that inspire all industry sectors to create better security behavior.

• Pickering will describe the security challenges faced in delivering global moments for shows like “Doctor Who,” “Sherlock” and “Blue Planet II.” The leak of scripts and unedited episodes in the past put BBC on the path to better security protocols, using a combination of stakeholder engagement, incident management, and vendor cooperation.

• Morgan’s presentation — “Defending Against Disinformation and Social Media Manipulation” — marks his third appearance on the CPS stage, following well-received keynotes at the NAB Show and in New York. He’ll update the audience on how new adversaries are using the same disinformation tactics being used in politics to attack entertainment brands and manipulate the media. Morgan will offer ideas on how Hollywood can protect its productions and consumers.
