M&E Day Keynotes to Address Power of Blockchain, Social Media

The keynote addresses have been set for the July 24 Media & Entertainment Day at the Microsoft Conference Center in New York, an event that covers three programs (Smart Content, Content Protection, and Entertainment Production in the Cloud) providing M&E technology teams valuable insights into the creation, production, distribution, security and analysis of content.

Following his popular keynote presentation in April during the Cyber Security & Content Protection Summit at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, Jonathon Morgan, CEO and founder of New Knowledge, will again take the stage in New York, with the keynote address “Defending Against Disinformation and Social Media Manipulation.”

Morgan will look at how adversaries are using paid advertisements and viral propaganda to attack entertainment brands, target journalists, and manipulate the media, and how media and entertainment organizations can protect themselves and their consumers.

The second M&E Day keynote comes via Kim Jackson, founder and president of entertainment for SingularDTV, who’ll looks at how tokens can be used to manage rights and revenue automatically, by using smart contracts, in the presentation “Empowering Artists via Blockchain.” Jackson will dive deeper into the tools and systems required to support creatives in the emerging blockchain environment for media and entertainment, and will discuss how the underlying blockchain technology behind cryptocurrencies can make a significant impact on how the industry creates, manages and distributes entertainment content.

At the February Smart Content West Summit in Los Angeles, Ted Farnsworth, chairman and CEO of MoviePass parent company Helios & Matheson Analytics, shared how the data MoviePass is collecting from its subscribers is the most crucial aspect of the $10-a-month movie theater subscription service. In New York during his M&E Day keynote, “Disruption in the Entertainment Industry; Monetizing the MoviePass Effect,” he’ll share the latest data moves behind the service, and how the industry can benefit from that data.

The 2018 Media & Entertainment Day is presented by Microsoft, with sponsorship from IBM Watson Media, Amazon Web Services, LiveTiles, Microsoft Azure, Luxoft, NeuLion, Ooyala, GrayMeta, MarkLogic and Qumulo. The event is produced by the Media & Entertainment Services Alliance (MESA), the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA), the Hollywood IT Society (HITS) and the Smart Content Council.
